I was shifting the loom around last week and heard a clunk. Clunks around looms are bad news. I looked. I saw a square nut on the floor. Loose nuts, without their bolts, are also bad news around looms.

I looked some more. I couldn’t see where the nut had come from, so I started checking all of them. Eventually, I found the unsecured bolt. I’m not surprised I didn’t see it right away. Both the head and the end are hidden. The nut attaches in a cut out that is tucked behind the warp reel.

Even the head of the nut is hard to see, tucked under one of the supports for the warp reel.

Unfortunately, the cut-out is tucked behind the warp reel, and it’s hard to access. I thought I had the nut on correctly, but it’s cross-threaded.

The joint has opened up a little. I can whack it back together with a rubber mallet. Will need to get back into the cut-out with needle nose pliers and work the bolt out, and then get it attached correctly. This may take a new bolt.

This loom is as old as I am. It needs regular attention.
