Rugs can be woven from my fabric or your stash of treasured but tired textiles, to match a color story or simply to turn a pile of unworn souvenir t shirts into something that’s both useful and attractive, rather than “oh so crafty…”
Springtime is a twill rug woven from recycled t shirts and other textiles, in the colors visible on March 23, 2012, near my home in east-central North Carolina. Wisteria, kerria, oak flowers, daffodils, quince, on a pink warp.

I call this rug "Fibonacci" because it is the first in this series to explore stripes designed according to the mathematical series that governs spirals. That is, the stripes increase 1, 2. 3. 5, 7, 8, and 13, where the number of stripes in each section is the sum of the number in the two previous sections.

Seascape is a long rug, alternating between bands of strong royal blue and shades of deep blue, teal, turquoise, and dark green.

Que Sera Sera is woven in 2/2 twill from three spools of fringed upholstery trim found at a Habitat Restore. The name refers to the fact that I wove until I ran out of blue trim, and that was the size of the rug.

Chose from several patterns and a number of roughly-reproducible color stories. No two rugs will be identical, however, as I use recovered and recycled textiles to create unique works of art.
Handwoven rugs are created on a Newcomb Studio art rug loom that has been in nearly continuous use since 1959 ,when it rolled out of the factory and went to its first home in Berea.
