I carried a ball of Not in My Name sock yarn from Black Trillium Fibers to a motorcycle rally in Maggie Valley in June 2017. It was our first rally. As anticipated, there was a fair amount of downtime, and socks are a perfect project to knit when you’re traveling by motorcycle.

Not completely to my surprise, John and I became engaged while riding on the Blue Ridge Parkway.

A year later, I still haven’t finished the socks. Once we came home, my attention turned to wedding planning. We were married in January, 2018, and I made all the flowers for the event as well as the skirt I wore.
Now we’re planning our honeymoon–riding the entire length of the Blue Ridge Parkway–and I need honeymoon socks. There isn’t enough knitting left in my engagement sock yarn to last for 9 days on a motorcycle, including a rally at the start, so I had to get some yarn for Honeymoon Socks. This time, I’ll start at the toe so I don’t have to pick up at the top of the cuff and knit more to use up all the yarn.
Here are the finished socks, along with a pair of glove liners to wear under my gauntlet gloves where the breeze comes back against my wrist. You can see where I picked up at the top and added several inches. I got bored with that ribbing and also wasn’t sure about calf increases, so I stopped before running out of yarn to make the glove liners.
